Department of Higher Algebra becomes 90

International Conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Higher Algebra Department of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University

About

The Department of Higher Algebra at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Moscow State University was founded in 1929 by O. Yu. Schmidt, a legendary scientist, algebraist, explorer of the Arctic and cosmos. When the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics was founded in 1933, the Department of Higher Algebra became a part of it. The Department carries on research in all main directions of modern algebra and its appliactions. The algebraic research seminar of the Department works continuously since April of 1930. Many algebraists from Russia and abroad take an active part in the work of the seminar.

On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, the Department of Higher Algebra organizes the International Algebraic Conference on May 28–31, 2019.

Topics include:

  1. Group theory
  2. Rings and modules
  3. Algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, and algebraic number theory
  4. Lie groups and Lie algebras, algebraic groups, and invariant theory
  5. Computer algebra
  6. Universal algebra
